BACKGROUND
Colorado's AI law, SB24-205, was meant to protect consumers from unfair AI practices. But in its current form, it's a costly and burdensome regulation that will drive innovation out of our state and hurt local businesses. Many policymakers agree that this is our chance to adopt smart AI policy that embraces innovation across Colorado.  It's time to take action and support a proposal that will  fix this law before it's too late. 

The Problem:

• SB24-205 imposes high annual costs on state agencies, local governments, and businesses. 
• The law's complex requirements and unrealistic timeline will lead to rushed, ineffective, and costly implementation.
• This will slow AI innovation, drive up costs for consumers, and make Colorado less competitive as a hub for tech and startups.
• Job losses could reach as high as 30,359 when the effects of this law widen to the broader tech sectors.

The Solution:

• Streamline the law's requirements to make it simpler and less expensive to implement.
• Provide additional time for implementation to ensure that it's done correctly.
• Build guardrails that protect consumers from bias and discrimination in AI without overburdening state budgets, local governments, and businesses.
